Hugo Grotius gGmbH
The Hugo Grotius gGmbH — non-profit society for the advancement of legal sciences (HGG) is a Germany based science and research society, which was established in 2014. The Hugo Grotius gGmbH is the legal entity behind its independent research institutes:- Institute for the Law of the Sea and International Marine Environmental Law (ISRIM)
- Institute for IT, Media and Intellectual Property Law (MLS LEGAL)
The Hugo Grotius gGmbH is also a non-governmental organization (NGO) in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN) since 2023 as well as in observer status with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The society is named after the Dutch jurist, reformed theologian and early theorist of natural rights (born 10 April 1583 in Delft; died 28 August 1645 in Rostock). Hugo Grotius is one of the intellectual foundingfathers of the principle of sovereignty, of the natural law doctrine and of public international law.
